Pop Song Music Lessons {Best Day of My Life by American Authors}

Are you looking for pop song music lessons, but don't know where to start? Wanting to incorporate pop music that is both relevant and appropriate for kids? This pop song lesson set is for “Best Day of My Life” by American Authors, and will allow you to improve understanding of rhythmic concepts, melodic concepts, and musical form, all while engaging your students with a song they already love!

THIS SET INCLUDES:
🎧 Listening response worksheet: Students listen and answer questions about the song
🎧 Biography slideshow for the band: includes where the band is from, which instruments they play, an overview of their music, and genre information
🎧 Slideshows to practice re and low sol: Students sing up and down tone ladder, sing patterns from the song, and figure out where in the song the patterns happen
🎧 Slideshow for form: Students learn the vocabulary terms “form,” “verse,” “chorus,” and “bridge,” then follow along with the form as they listen
🎧 Slideshow for bucket drumming: Students review bucket drumming moves (top, side, rim, and clicking sticks in air), then learn a bucket drumming routine which follows the form. Rhythms include eighth notes, quarter notes, quarter rests, eighth/ quarter/ eighth (syncopa), and 2 sixteenth/ 1 eighth (tika-ti.)
🎧 Slideshow for ukulele: Students review the C major chord, F major chord, and A minor chord, then learn how to accompany the song. Note: To play along with the recording, students would need a Capo (or they could play without the recording.)
🎧 Lesson directions: Includes suggestions for how to structure lessons, and aligns lessons with NCAS

No, for copyright reasons, I could not include it. You will need to purchase a recording on iTunes or another platform, or listen on YouTube.
🎶 What if my students don't know syncopa yet, or aren't playing ukulele?

I created these lessons so that they could work together or stand alone, so if you need to leave one lesson out for now, you can (and then bring it back later if you want!)
