Ukulele videos for the music room

Ukulele on a wood background, with the text "Ukulele videos for the music room"

Are you teaching beginning ukulele lessons, and looking for resources to use? In this blog post, I'm writing about five videos I have loved using in my music classroom, to practice beginning chords on ukulele.

To use these ukulele videos, you could simply project the playalongs on your interactive white board and have students play along. Another way to use the videos is to put them into your Learning Management System (such as Google Classroom or Schoology) and have students choose which videos they want to watch and play along with. This is a wonderful way to give them agency and have them self-differentiate.

Here are the videos:

#1: C major play along

In this video by Bernadette Teaches Music, students play along to different rhythm patterns, using only the C major chord. This is a wonderful way to practice this chord and to practice rhythm!

#2: Ho Hey

Once students know the C major and A minor chords, check out this fun video for “Ho Hey” by the Lumineers. My students loved playing along with it, and it's a wonderful way to practice switching between chords!

#3: Ukulaliens Playalong

After teaching the C major and A minor chords, I move onto F major…and this cute video by Ukulaliens is great practice! I love how the video gets more difficult as it progresses!

#4: Good to be alive

Now that students are comfortable with the C major, A minor, and F major, this playalong for the song “Good to be alive” by Meghan Trainor, from “The Peanuts Movie,” is super engaging! I love that, like with the “Ho Hey” video, students can play along with a song they are familiar with! (And the song has an awesome message!)

#5: Try everything

Once students learn G major, you can have them try this fun playalong, for “Try Everything” by Shakira, which was featured in the “Zootopia” movie.

I hope your students enjoy these ukulele videos as much as mine have! Looking for more ukulele ideas and lessons for your music classroom? Check out these ukulele sets:

  1. I’m interested in your ukulele lessons. Also can I have a list of what you have to offer? I am interested in the kindergarten centers. I would like to know what that is about and other lesson plans for other grades.
    Thank you
